Gâteau de mariage inspiré de la cathédrale de Milan.

Three months of research, 800 hours of work ... This imposing wedding cake nearly 7 feet high, inspired by Milan’s Cathedral, is the work of Bastien Blanc-Tailleur.

Simply astonishing! This pastry chef’s work is so amazing it’s hard to believe it’s just a cake! Bastien Blanc-Tailleur, a native of Annecy, France, is a sculptor of sugar, not stone. Since 2015, he’s been crafting monumental artistic cakes, mainly for weddings. In mid-June, he was named the world’s most creative pastry chef by the culinary guide La Liste. And indeed, his portfolio will leave you breathless!

One outstanding example among his majestic creations dates back to 2021: a cake inspired by Milan’s Duomo, a jewel of Gothic architecture. It took him three months of research before he got down to making this wedding cake..

A perfectionist and art lover, Bastien Blanc-Tailleur bought plans of the Milan cathedral to be as faithful as possible to the architectural details of the Duomo. “We made a very architectural cake,” he told Elle à table magazine. “We reproduced all the details, remade molds, sculpted all the arcades, all the doors, the arches…” In all, the wedding cake represents 800 hours of work and includes 4,500 moldings and 3,500 sugar flowers. The result is stunning, and it seems almost a crime for it to be eaten!
