The mother-and-son duo that makes some of the finest Christian music on the market, DUPREE, is opening up about the tragic death of their husband and father, Brian Dupree. The pair of musicians have channeled their grief into a beautiful new song titled “Walk Me Home,” while launching a campaign to encourage regular cancer screenings.
Released on August 9, “Walk Me Home” is a wonderful song of faith that pays a lovely tribute to Brian Dupree. The song remains upbeat even through the heartbreaking subject matter, a nod to the Duprees’ belief that they will meet their beloved paterfamilias again when they themselves have passed on.
In an email to Aleteia, Dylan explained that his father had tragically succumbed to colon cancer after an 18-month battle. At Brian’s request – as he was always Dylan’s #1 fan – he was buried in his DUPREE band shirt, the same one he wore to every one of his son’s concerts. Dylan recalled how his father recognized the importance of DUPREE’s ministry, even sending Dylan and Lauren to World Youth Day to play a string of concerts when he could not go himself.
Now, the Duprees want to help prevent other families from experiencing the same grief, as they launch a campaign to raise awareness of how colon cancer can be treatable if caught early. The way to do that is by regular cancer screenings, Dylan said:
“Our goal is to use this song to spread awareness towards colon cancer screenings, which make this type of cancer 100% preventable. Nobody should have to go through what my dad went through when there is medical knowledge out there with the ability to cure this cancer. There is a prevention for it and it is getting a colonoscopy before it happens, at the new [recommended] age. The new age is 45 years old, and then come back at the request of the doctor.”
As they are musicians, they intend to use their music to raise awareness of cancer prevention with a tour called “The Fearless In Faith Tour for Brian.” Along with the music, they plan to minister to others who are contending with grief and tragedy, in honor of Brian “who believed their evangelization impacted people worldwide.”
Those who are interested can support “The Fearless In Faith Tour for Brian” on a GoFundMe campaign launched by DUPREE. Be sure to follow this mother/son musical duo on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, or your preferred streaming service.
