Behind every child with Down syndrome is a parent who decided to say "yes" to life.

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, so we wanted to not only draw attention to incredible people with Down syndrome who’ve overcome society’s prejudices, but also introduce you to a few amazing parents who not only have their children’s backs, but are showing the world what a positive force their children have been on them.

These are just a very few stories of parents empowering their kids, and providing a better future for others with Down syndrome:

Letting his world be rocked … for the good!

A rock star was so moved by his child’s experience that it completely changed how he saw his music. The changes are a true testimony of how much love and joy a child with Down syndrome can bring to a parent’s life.

Providing jobs and awareness

Bitty and Beau’s is the brainchild of a mom who has twins with Down syndrome. Like many parents of children with intellectual disabilities, the Wrights learned from their own experience and decided to create an inclusive place where people who may face difficulties in the professional world can find work and community.

Standing up for the vulnerable

Funny woman Patricia Heaton used her celebrity status to draw the world’s attention to Iceland’s “elimination” of those with Down syndrome through the country’s abortion policy. The mom of four wasn’t afraid to stand up for those who don’t have a voice.
