St. Francis de Sales was deeply devoted to the Sacred Heart and would often reference this devotion in letters he wrote.
In particular, he wrote a letter to St. Jane Francis de Chantal that highlighted this devotion, and he gave her a prayer to say while contemplating the crucifix.
Let us lift our heart on high and look upon God’s Heart which is so good and loving toward us.
Oh my daughter, let us put ourselves before our crucified Sun in this way and then say to him:
“O lovely Sun of our hearts, the rays of your goodness pour life into everything; here we are before you, half dead, and we will not stir until your warmth gives us life, Lord Jesus.”
May our heart and the Heart of our heart watch lovingly over you.
