Dear Future Mom is a powerful 3-minute YouTube clip that shares the story of a mother who recently learned that her unborn son has Down syndrome.
“I’m scared,” she writes, “What kind of life will my child have?”
A group of bright-eyed, engaging children with Down syndrome offer answers that are both optimistic and honest.
“He will hug you …”
“He will go to school …”
“He will be able to earn money, and take you out to dinner.”
They don’t hesitate to share the challenges this mother will face either.
“It will be difficult at times — almost impossible … “
But isn’t that how it is for all mothers?”
The kids are then joined by their moms for hugs and kisses and the joy truly resonates through the screen.  It’s no wonder #DearFutureMom has received over 8M views since it was released in 2014.
Several non-profit groups pitched in to create the piece, but The Hiring Chain, a group that empowers people with Down syndrome in the workplace, hosts the discussion on the film’s YouTube page.  “My daughter has Down syndrome,” reads one of the thousands of comments, “This truly gives me hope.”
