Mother of five Brenda is a homeschooler and Instagrammer who shares the small pleasures of everyday life by photographing her children with poetry, humor, and creativity. Opportunities abound: her Instagram account She Plus Five is followed by 10,000 subscribers who are visibly touched by this imaginative tribute to motherhood.
“I spend my days running after my kids, doing 17 loads of laundry a day, and nibbling on dark chocolate … so when I have five seconds of free time, I take pictures of my kids. And it’s pure joy!” Brenda says on Bored Panda, the website of the community of photographers and artists.
Happy but realistic
In recent years, mothers have filled the internet with countless blogs, Instagram accounts, and Pinterest creations, all with very different styles. However, two major trends oppose each other.
On one side, there are the “happy moms” who praise the lives of perfect mothers in a postcard world. And on the other, there are those avoid the too idealistic vision of motherhood and reveal with a lot of humor the big and small events of family life: along with the happy and tender scenes, they also share the sorrows of children, pictures of ruined birthday cakes, spilled mashed potatoes, destroyed living rooms …
Brenda falls into the second camp, managing to show a rather fair vision of motherhood in a light and tender way, as a happy but realistic mother. She takes pictures every day in the thick of her family life, without trying to embellish everything. She shares her little ordinary pleasures, the little things that illuminate her days.
