VATICAN CITY — Germany is mourning today, after last evening’s terror attack when a man plowed a truck through crowds at a Christmas market, leaving 12 persons dead and many injured.
Pope Francis today sent a telegram to the Archbishop of Berlin, expressing his deep sadness on hearing the news.
“His Holiness wishes to manifest his own participation in the morning of family and loves ones, expressing his compassion and assuring them of his closeness in their pain,” the telegram, sent on the pope’s behalf by Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, said.
“In prayer, he entrusts the departed to the mercy of God, imploring him also for the healing of the wounded. The Holy Father thanks the first responders for their pro-active commitment.”
The telegram continued: “Pope Francis joins all men of good who are committed to seeing that the murderous madness of terrorism no longer finds a place in our world. In this sense, His Holiness implores from the merciful God consolation, protection and the comfort of his blessing.”
