The Church of St. Joseph in Nazareth
Though this is not technically a shrine -- and not in North America -- we feel compelled to include it here. The Church of St. Joseph in Nazareth is as close as one can get to the Foster Father of Jesus. Situated near the Basilica of the Annunciation, the church stands over what is believed to be the “carpentry shop of Joseph.” Visitors can take a set of stairs down to caves beneath the church that had been granaries in Roman times and worship spaces during the Byzantine era. The present church built on top dates to the early 20th century.
