The Island of Saint Julius
The monastery on the island of Saint Julius, a 900-foot long stretch of land in the middle of Lake Orta in northwest Italy, was built in the 18th century to serve as the local bishop’s headquarters. It has been occupied by Bendictine nuns since 1973. The monastery looks as if it were suspended in time.
