Salisbury Cathedral
Built in just 38 years, Salisbury Cathedral shows a great unity of style unlike other cathedrals and churches in which the passage of the centuries is shown by successive layers and additions in different architectural styles. Here, everything is in the Early English Gothic style characterised by the unadorned pointed arch windows. What strikes me is the expanse of glass visible in this north elevation which would have made the cathedral much brighter and ‘modern’ than the old Romanesque cathedral in Old Sarum.
