Șurdești Built in 1712 in honor of the Archangel Michael, the church of Șurdești is one of the tallest wooden structures in the world. It was built according to a popular belief which had it that taller churches would it make easier for prayers to reach heaven. The 1783 frescoes that decorate the interior of the church were painted over canvas strips that were placed in between wooden beams.
