Prayer for the Evening

Vigil of the Fifth Sunday of Lent

Lord of life, we praise you!

Glory to the Father…. Amen.

Psalm 138

Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this? (Jn 11:26)

Jesus revealed that God is the God of the living and not the dead. He raised Lazarus from the dead in pledge of his own Resurrection and our resurrection in him. Lazarus, restored to his former life, died again at the end of his natural span, but those raised to new life in Christ will never die again.

I thank you, Lord, with all my heart,
you have heard the words of my mouth.
In the presence of the angels I will bless you.
I will adore before your holy temple.

I thank you for your faithfulness and love
which excel all we ever knew of you.
On the day I called, you answered;
you increased the strength of my soul.

All earth’s kings shall thank you
when they hear the words of your mouth.
They shall sing of the Lord’s ways:
“How great is the glory of the Lord!”

The Lord is high yet he looks on the lowly
and the haughty he knows from afar.
Though I walk in the midst of affliction
you give me life and frustrate my foes.

Word of GodPhilippians 3:8-11

I even consider everything as a loss because of the supreme good of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have accepted the loss of all things and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having any righteousness of my own based on the law but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God, depending on faith to know him and the power of his resurrection and [the] sharing of his sufferings by being conformed to his death, if somehow I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

I am the resurrection and the life. (Jn 11:25)
