It is customary in many countries for little girls to wear flower wreaths for their First Communion. It’s a lovely tradition embellishing the solemn ceremony and allowing one to express their faith in beauty and refinement. Of course, you can always buy a ready-made wreath for this great occasion. But it’s even better if you can make one yourself, with or without your child’s help.
A wreath of natural flowers

This wreath must be made with leaves and flowers that dry well: baby-breaths, small roses, sea lavender, acrolinium, craspedia, santolina, hydrangea, ears of wheat, eucalyptus…. We are going to tell you how to make a wreath with the ears of wheat (the symbol of Eucharist) and baby’s breath.

- 1 Thick wire
- 1 Florist wire
- 1 pair of small cutting pliers
- 31.5 inches of ribbon in cotton, linen or lace
- A big bouquet of flowers, leaves or ears of wheat
- 1 hot glue gun
Instructions:
- You will need a thick wire cut to 18-20 inches (the head size of a 6-year-old girl). With a pair of pliers bend each of its ends to form a loop. Pass a ribbon through the loop at each end and tie the wreath to hold it in place.
- Use the freshest flowers available, while their stems are still flexible. Cut each stem 1.18 inches from the blossoms. Make small bouquets by attaching together two to five stems with a florist wire. For example, one eucalyptus leaf with a rose, five stems of baby’s breath or two stems of baby’s breath with an ear of wheat.

- Using the florist wire, attach your little bouquets one by one to the thick wire. Start from one end and continue in the same direction. Add more ribbon by sliding it inside each loop and tie it in a pretty bow. You may also use two ribbons of different colors or different lengths.
