When you have doubts about how to raise or educate your kids, the Holy Spirit is a helpful guide.

If you have more than one child you know that each of them is unique. And yet, you must raise them all together. But together does not exactly mean in the same way, because you’ll have to adapt to their different and sometimes contrary needs. At times, this task can become so difficult that you’ll have to call on the Holy Spirit for help.

This phrase from the Veni Sancte Spiritus: Flecle quod est rigidum, fove quod est rigidum, rege quod est devium can help you to do that. Slightly diverging from the literal translation, it can be re-transcribed into English in the following way:

Bend us if we are too inflexible.

Fire us with tenderness if we are too cold.

Correct us if we stray from your commandments.

Amen.
