Our good friend Kevin Knight at New Advent had this video up a few days ago and it was lingering in my tabs while I languished through a sick day. I finally watched it last night and was fascinated and enthralled with this PBS/Nova documentary on how a renaissance goldsmith, Filippo Brunelleschi, defied gravity, managing to engineer the largest dome of its kind in the world — without wooden frames — completing construction in a remarkably short time and leaving behind no notes.
It’s stunning. When you get a chance, take an hour and watch. Gather the kids around; they’ll be fascinated, too!
