The report on the Holy Father this Saturday evening is overall positive, as the Vatican affirms that his “clinical condition remains stable.”

“He is alternating between non-invasive mechanical ventilation and long periods of supplemental high-flow oxygenation,” the note added.

It also pointed out that the Pope does not have a fever or high white blood cell count, both factors which could indicate an infection.

He has continued eat on his own and has regularly undergone respiratory physiotherapy, in which he cooperates actively. He has not experienced any further episodes of bronchospasm.

The Holy Father remains alert and oriented. He received the Eucharist on Saturday afternoon, then devoted himself to prayer.

However, “the prognosis remains guarded,” the Holy See continues to assert. Vatican News added that the Holy Father “remains in good humor,” specifying that he spent about 20 minutes praying today in the chapel near his hospital room.

The Pope will not lead the midday Angelus on Sunday, and the traditional Ash Wednesday service has been assigned to someone else.

Prayer for the Pope

We pray for Francis, our Pope.
May he and all the ill feel their companionship with the suffering Christ.
Grant him rest and restored health.
Amen.
