Pope Francis remains “in good spirits,” a Vatican source reported. For the moment, the Argentine pontiff is not in pain, a source assured. He can get up — sitting is part of the treatment for respiratory ailments — and he is eating normally. It is not known whether he is still using oxygen today.
The Vatican is inviting all the faithful in Rome to pray the Rosary every evening at 9 pm in St. Peter’s Square. This evening Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin will lead the prayer.
On Sunday, Cardinal Baldassare Reina, vicar for the diocese of Rome, celebrated a Mass for Pope Francis at the Cathedral of St. John Lateran. Tomorrow, Tuesday, the Pope’s right-hand man for his diocese is due to celebrate Mass again at the Argentinian parish in Rome.
This Monday marks the 11th day of the Argentinian pontiff’s hospitalization at Gemelli. The 266th pope’s fourth hospitalization thus becomes his longest stay in the polyclinic in northwestern Rome since his election in 2013.
