A friend recently shared what happened at a wedding she’d attended in the middle of France. You’d think that any nuptials at the end of June in the south of France would hopefully be accompanied by some pretty delightful weather. This was not the case.
The marriage of the couple in question took place on the first day of summer, which ironically felt more like a rainy day in fall. (In fact France has been slow to get any sunshine at all this year, and it is only today, June 23, that the sun has finally smiled on Parisians.)
Getting back to the marriage (although the weather is instrumental to this story), the newlyweds are both French who happen to live in that beautiful hotspot in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius. However, they ditched their sunny climes to marry in France to be surrounded by their loved ones.
The day before had seen constant heavy rain, and on the morning of their big day the clouds looked ominously dark. Somewhat miraculously, however, the rain held off, but only when the couple needed to go outside: whether to enter or leave the church, to take lengthy outdoor photo sessions, or to have the welcome champagne and canapés .
The reception — thankfully — was inside a chateau so the newlyweds and guests were spared from getting drenched the rest of the time.
St. Clare to the rescue
At the end of the evening my friend spoke to the mother of the bride, sharing how delighted she was that the rain behaved itself on such a special day. The mother explained that she’d spent the previous few days, and the morning of the wedding, deep in prayer to St. Clare, asking her for a little heavenly help to keep the rain at bay.
Well, St. Clare certainly seemed to have listened and provided the happy couple and their family and friends with a little break from the rain whenever it was necessary.
Of course nobody really wants to have rain on such a meaningful day after months (or maybe years) of planning. However, if it does happen to you, remember that it is said to bring good fortune to your marriage, so it might be worth it.
But if you’d like to do your best to have more clement weather, then you could try reaching out to St. Clare, too, with these prayers.
