The high ranking comes as CUA works to complete construction on a new building that will double the nursing school's size.

More laurels have been bestowed upon The Catholic University of America’s (CUA) prized nursing program, which was recently ranked in the top 5 on the list of Best Online Master’s in Nursing programs. Additionally, the Washington, D.C.-based university was placed at #13 on the list of Best Online Family Nurse Practitioner Master’s Programs.

CUA’s Conway School of Nursing has long been one of the biggest draws for the university, which offers Master’s and Doctoral programs to students. Those who graduate from their programs have been known to take leading roles in their fields, including: nurse scientists, deans of schools of nursing, and nurse executives. CUA has also produced more Army Nurse Corps Chiefs than any other school in the country.

The rankings were conducted by US News, which placed CUA in a tie with Chicago’s St. Xavier University for the #5 spot. The University of Alabama, Ohio State, and Duke University were tied in second place, and the #1 spot is held solely by the University of South Carolina. In the category of Best Online Family Nurse Practitioner Master’s Programs, CUA was tied at #13 with Texas A&M, Marquette University, and Georgia College & State University.

That CUA’s program can stand beside such prestigious institutions is a point of pride that the pontifical university of the United States is celebrating. The Catholic Herald has comments from Dean of the Conway School of Nursing, Marie Nolan:

“It is always a pleasure to see our academic programs achieve top rankings in the Conway School of Nursing. [The rankings] are well-deserved by our faculty members who are expert nurse practitioners who actively practice in their specialty and are excellent teachers who focus on the whole student, mind, body and spirit,” she said. “There is a commitment to respecting the dignity of the human person and promoting human flourishing that makes our school stand out among our peers.”

While the ranking came out in late January, CUA has long known that they had something special with their nursing program, which led them to begin constructing a new building for their nursing school in 2021. Scheduled to be completed in 2024, the new building will double the size of the current nursing education facilities, with 102,000 square feet of space. With so much more room for labs, classrooms, and simulations, the Conway School of Nursing may soon place highly on the ranks of in-person nursing programs as well.
