Thanks to pianos that have become commonplace in train stations, members of the public have witnessed some wonderful performances by professional, amateur, old, and young players. And the latest performance to appear on social media by a young teenager who is both blind and neurodiverse is breathtaking.
As part of a new talent show, called The Piano, pianists are performing in front of a crowd while judges listen in a room that’s hidden away. When all the performers have played their pieces, the judges select one person to play on stage.
In the run-up to the show, Channel 4 revealed one performer who left members of the audience in tears, and who one viewer described as a “miracle,” according to the Daily Mail.
Lucy, a young teen who seemed lost in her own world as she performed Chopin’s Opus 9 Number 1, stunned the judges, Mika and Lang Lang, who were visibly moved watching her play:
‘It’s unbelievable that she can play this piece. How – how does she study? I mean, it’s incredible,’ shared Lang Lang
At the end of her performance, Lucy was met with a rousing round of applause. The youngster is seen placing her fingers in her ears because she can’t cope with the sound of the applause (even though she loves receiving it), explained the woman who accompanied Lucy to the event.
The performance garnered a lot of positive comments on Twitter, with people sharing the importance of such an inspiring performance.
And as one person commented on Twitter: ‘A magical and beautiful performance by Lucy. An inspiration to everyone watching and a reminder that being neurodiverse is a gift.”
Whereas one piano teacher posted: ‘Blind musicians are incredible in how they learn and memorise music. I have been so blessed by my own, young blind student who has challenged me to look again at my teaching and more besides. Lucy featured here is very special.”
And of course, Lucy reminds us that despite the many challenges she faces, she is able to use her God-given skills to inspire others.
