Michael Jordan may be known for his record-breaking basketball skills and his impressive stature, but the father of 5 has now broken a totally different type of record.
To mark his 60th birthday, Jordan donated a staggering $10 million to Make-A-Wish America, a foundation that grants wishes to children with critical or terminal illnesses. And according to CNN, it is the largest donation ever made by an individual in the foundation’s history.
Jordan has actually been involved with the charity for a number of years. In 2008, he was named as the Chief Wish Ambassador, and by 2013, the basketball star had granted wishes to 200 vulnerable children.
But he didn’t stop there. Jordan managed to raise an impressive $5 million for the foundation by 2019, and now with his birthday gift, many more children will get to see their wishes (often their last) granted.
It is particularly inspiring that Jordan used his birthday to not only give money to such a worthy cause, but to also shine a light on the charity. His generosity is also a great example to use our birthdays as a time to celebrate what we can do for others.
It is so often the case that we tend to think of our birthdays as a time to celebrate our own existence, but we can look at this special day to thank God for the lives we have, and to think of ways we can help others.
And the great thing is, we don’t have to be multi-millionaires to do good. We can use our time to serve others, show them compassion and care, and offer our prayers for those who need them.
