The hit series on the life of Christ, The Chosen, is continuing to be one of the most in demand shows in the world, having accumulated more than 450 million episode views after just three seasons. While most shows content themselves with streaming platforms these days, worldwide demand for this biblically faithful series has seen certain episodes debut in movie theaters to great success. Now, the final two episodes of Season 3 are showing in theaters nationwide, and Fathom Events has announced that it is extending this theatrical release.

The finale of Season 3 was initially scheduled for a two-day release in theaters on February 2 and 3. The tickets, however, sold so well that Fathom has extended the screenings until Monday, February 6, 2023. Each of the extra days will offer two showings, a matinee and another in the evening.

According to a press release, the remaining schedule is as follows:

Friday, February 3, 2023, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. local time
Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 2p.m. and 6 p.m. local time
Sunday, February 5, 2023, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. local time
Monday, February 6, 2023, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. local time

Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events, explained that the additional screenings were a direct response to requests from fans. He said:

“The fans have spoken once again, and our exhibitor partners are responding with extended play dates and showtimes for The Chosen. This is Fathom’s third consecutive event with The Chosen in which we’ve been able to extend the limited engagement so that fans of this compelling series can see the episodes on the big screen as a community.”

One of the reasons fans have responded so well to The Chosen is its authentic and intimate picture of Jesus’ life and ministry, seen through the eyes of the people who knew him. The show places much of the focus on Christ’s apostles, the titular characters of The Chosen, bringing the humanity of these biblical figures to the forefront through exceptional character development and world building. The show further immerses viewers with detailed sets and phenomenal performances from the cast.

Fathom expressed delight that the finale of the third season could make its debut in theaters, as the stunning conclusion is tailormade for a big-screen event. Fathom described the biblical events depicted in the finale:

“This season’s storylines reach an epic climax as Simon and Eden face their marital crisis while the thousands of people gathering for Jesus grow restless … until a boy brings five loaves and two fish.”
