The Springmans: A family Christian band that’s a joy to hear

After their award-winning debut album, now the Springmans are back with a promising new single for sophomore album.

The Springmans are a family of musicians who have been working as a band for several years now. Their debut album, Happy Beach, was a complete success; taking home both a Parents Choice Award and the GMA Canada Covenant Award. Now this family of six is aiming to do it again with a string of charming, high-energy singles for their upcoming album, Upside Down.

Their latest single from the new album, “Marvelous,” feels like it could be a theme song for a Christian kids show. An ultra-poppy song of praise, it would be just as appropriate for use in a Christian ministry as it would in a concert setting. The song is brimming with joy for the faith and features a bouncing rhythm that practically begs for dancing.

The band is composed of lead vocalist, dad, and band leader Perry Springman; Emma (18) on vocals, mandolin, and ukulele; Ryan (15) on mandolin, djembe, drums, and vocals; Sarah (13) on keyboards and vocals; and Jacob (11) on percussions and violin. Meanwhile, their mother, Julia, serves as the road manager for the busy family band.

Happy Beach, released in 2015, was a labor largely driven by Perry Springman, but now the kids have matured quite a bit and it shows in their music. In their 2022 recordings, the children are holding their own through guitar riffs, both lead and backup vocals, as well as their own individual instruments. It’s not just studio magic either, as the kids show off that they really know their stuff in live performances.

The Springmans’ style is an amalgam of wholesome acts that makes us think of the Partridge Family, if they were performing a children’s sing-along at a Sunday school. The music is generally high energy and brimming with faithful Christian lyrics. This Christian message is further supported by the beautiful family values practically brimming in each video.

The music videos are particularly well done, offering views of this loving family having an absolute ball with their music. We especially liked their video for “The 3 Minute Cleanup,” in which the kids get into all kinds of hijinks while cleaning up their toys. Not only is the subject so fitting for a young family band, but it feels like a song that naturally grew from the siblings’ experiences cleaning up the house.

In a press release, Perry explained that the Springmans intend for their music to appeal to people of all ages and to be enjoyed together, be it as a family or a Christian community:

“In a Christian worship culture that tends to create music that separates the church body into age categories, we believe we are all to worship Him united, together,” says Perry Springman. “Our album, Upside Down, is our call to worship as the family of Christ—with songs that will draw adults and kids together in worship of the One who calls us His children. If you choose to love and follow Jesus, then you can expect the world to view you as, well, upside down—different, strange, and peculiar. But we believe that living a life without the One who created us, knows us, and loves us is what is truly upside down!”

There’s a whole bunch of high quality music appropriate for all ages in the Springmans’ collection. Find them on Spotify and Apple Music, then be sure to follow them on YouTube to see all their latest videos.
