A drunken thief was injured after falling on the sword of a statue of Saint Michael. Some local reports claim that he was trying to steal the statue itself from the Cristo Rey Parish church in downtown Monterrey, Mexico. Other sources say the thief was looking for any valuable object within the church, and accidentally tripped over the sculpture. Some other reports, finally, claim the thief was wounded not by the Saint Michael’s sword, but by the glass of a window he broke to get into the church.

The man, who suffered a serious throat injury, was identified as Carlos Alonso. The 32-year-old man broke into the church in a drunken stupor and stumbled. According to most reports, the tip of the sword of Saint Michael badly wounded him.

According to Milenio, neighbors requested the support of police and first responders as they saw Alonso walking out of the church, with his hand on his throat and blood stains on his shirt. Responders soon managed to control the bleeding. “Despite the fainting,” the note in Milenio reads, “he fought the paramedics, as he refused to go to a hospital, but was finally taken to the University Hospital by elements of the Monterrey Police.”
