When discussing the Catechism of the Catholic Church, it’s tempting to think of it in terms of rules, regulations, or laws.
However, the prologue of the Catechism explains that it should be viewed in the context of the word “love.”
The whole concern of doctrine and its teaching must be directed to the love that never ends. Whether something is proposed for belief, for hope or for action, the love of our Lord must always be made accessible, so that anyone can see that all the works of perfect Christian virtue spring from love and have no other objective than to arrive at love.

The aim of the Catechism is not to simply dictate rules for Catholics to live by, but to help Catholics to love God more fully.
The first Letter of St. John provides a perfect verse for this concept.
He who does not love does not knowGod; for Godislove.
1 John 4:8
Loving God is linked with knowing God. We cannot merely “know” God and his rules without loving him.
The Catechism, while it may appear to be focused on rules, is in fact focused on love and how to love God in a more perfect way.
