A recent charming discovery was made inside a book that had been donated to a charity shop in England.
On opening the book, a little hand-written letter was found by shop assistant Lily Birchall. It had been written in beautiful cursive by a young girl called Marjorie.
The letter was a detailed list for Father Christmas and included some very traditional and thoughtful wishes. And as Birchall shared with the BBC: “It’s so innocent and it’s what Christmas should really be about, small gifts and the real sense of magic and believing.”
On little Marjorie’s wishlist were the following essentials, according to Whirligig Toys, who displayed the handwritten treasure:
Dear Father Christmas,
When you come to see us on Christmas Eve will you please bring us some little toy ducks and chickens for a present, also a canvas stocking like you brought us last year. You will see an extra stocking hanging up this time, it is for KittyKins she would like a piece of ribbon and a ball in hers.
With love and kisses from us both
Your Loving Marjorie.”
These meaningful, thoughtful, and simple gifts seem such a far cry from many of today’s requests. And the letter is a great reminder to share with our children about what Christmas should be about.
And while we will never know if Marjorie and Kittykins ever received their presents from Father Christmas, it is lovely to see how the simplest of things would have provided so much pleasure!
