Recent popes have often shared how sport can be a unifying force, and this was recently the case for a young 10-year-old when she received the support of soccer fans.
In a short video, the little girl called “Luly” had been out with her parents to celebrate her home team of Argentina’ when it scored a 2-0 win against Mexico in the World Cup qualifiers.
After the outing, the family had to make their way to a hospital appointment for Luly to make a medical appointment. However, they didn’t count on getting stuck in traffic as Argentinian fans flooded into the streets to also celebrate the win.
Luly’s father got out of the car and asked the fans to move out of the way so he could get his daughter to the hospital to receive her treatment. However, the fans went that little bit further by loudly cheering on Luly as she drove passed them. The youngster was visibly moved to tears as they made the way through the throngs.
It’s these sorts of small gestures that can mean so much to people, and it’s a moment in Luly’s life when she will hopefully remember the day her team won an important match, and when she received the love and support of complete strangers amidst their celebrations.
