Baking competition drew professionals from across Connecticut, who created gorgeous cakes for a sweeter take on political competition.

The nation may have been divided over the midterm election results, but one thing most Americans can agree on is enjoying a good dessert.

So it’s no wonder that a recent politically themed baking competition has gone viral. You are going to love the photos!

Connecticut’s Old State House hosted the event, for which professional bakers from across Connecticut created an array of gorgeous cakes. It took place the weekend before Election Day, on Saturday, November 5.

The winner was Sweets by Jenna, a custom bakery boutique. After the win, the bakery’s Instagram page posted the following:

I won my first bake off! 🏆✨ Had the best time today at @ctoldstatehouse competing in their Election Day bake off. I met some amazing people and got the best compliments by a pastry chef from one of my idol bakeries, @sift_bake_shop !! Couldn’t go wrong with a 4 tier over the top cake in our signature almond raspberry cake flavor 😋👌🏼 We’re ready for the next @foodnetwork baking competition 🤪🤪 #sweetsbyjenna #ctbakery

The bakers’ and judges’ good-natured and cheerful approach to this competition is sweet to see. It calls to mind the good faith and good will with which all citizens are called to approach life in the public square.

The USCCB reminds us of our calling to charity and unity in their Prayer for After an Election:

God of all nations,
Father of the human family,
we give you thanks for the freedom we exercise
and the many blessings of democracy we enjoy
in these United States of America.
We ask for your protection and guidance
for all who devote themselves to the common good,
working for justice and peace at home and around the world.
We lift up all our duly elected leaders and public servants,
those who will serve us as president, as legislators and judges,
those in the military and law enforcement.
Heal us from our differences and unite us, O Lord,
with a common purpose, dedication, and commitment to achieve liberty and justice
in the years ahead for all people,
and especially those who are most vulnerable in our midst.
Amen.

Healing from our differences, as the USCCB prayer suggests, is no small task. Yet it’s worth working and striving and even devoting our lives for this cause.

Perhaps we can find some inspiration toward this goal from something as humble and sweet as this baking competition!
