Being a teen in today’s world is far from easy. It’s not just about all the temptations that are out there, but other factors, such as social media, that seem to sow self-doubt.
When an impressionable teen is caught up in all their angst, it often leaves little room to see the way forward. Obstacles seem too huge to surmount, and it’s easy to slip into a negative spiral of despair.
Yet, it’s important for younger generations to know that some self-doubt is all part of growing up. After all, even Jesus experienced profound moments of doubt in His life. And in these dark times He turned to his Heavenly Father; something we can encourage our own children to do.
Luckily our troubled teens can look to the Bible to find words of wisdom and comfort. And here are just a few of our favorites to help them on their way:
For I know well the plans I have in mind for you—oracle of the LORD—plans for your welfare and not for woe, so as to give you a future of hope. When you call me, and come and pray to me, I will listen to you.” Jeremiah 29:11-12
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” John 14: 27
Do not fear: I am with you; do not be anxious: I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” Matthew 11: 28-30
Let your life be free from love of money but be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never forsake you or abandon you.’ Thus we may say with confidence: ‘The Lord is my helper, [and] I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?'” Hebrews 13: 5-6
“My bones are not hidden from you, When I was being made in secret, fashioned in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me unformed; in your book all are written down; my days were shaped, before one came to be. How precious to me are your designs, O God; how vast the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the sands; when I complete them, still you are with me.” Psalms 139:15-18
