This year saw the release of the wonderfully moving Father Stu. The film, starring Mark Wahlberg, depicted the inspiring life of a once-wayward Stuart Long, who became a much-loved priest before dying at the age of 50 from inclusion body myositis.
While many people enjoyed the movie, there was some criticism about the language used (before his conversion, Stu was known for his prolific cussing). However, Wahlberg, who played the main role and produced the movie, wanted to remain true to Stu’s colorful past in order to show the extent of his conversion.
Now, despite his initial intentions, Wahlberg seems to have listened to his fans and is sharing Fr. Stu’s life with a broader audience. The dad-of-four just told his fans on Facebook that there will be a new version of the movie called Father Stu: Reborn. This new version will be released on December 9 and rated PG13, instead of its original R rating.
The new version will be welcome news to those who are averse to coarse language and swearing, and to parents who want to share the astonishing story of Fr. Stu with their teens. After all, he is such a good example of how life’s journey can be very bumpy, but if you remain open to hearing God’s voice, you never know what may happen.
