Pick-Goslar grew up with Anne Frank in Amsterdam, after both their families moved there from Germany as the Nazi party rose to power.

The Anne Frank Foundation, which runs the Anne Frank House Museum, announced that Hannah Pick-Goslar, one of Anne Frank’s best friends, has died at age 93. No details on the cause of her death were given.

In a statement, the Foundation paid tribute to Pick-Goslar (who is mentioned in Anne’s diary) for helping to keep Anne’s memory alive with stories about their youth: “Hannah Pick-Goslar meant a lot to the Anne Frank House, and we could always call on her,” the statement reads.

Pick-Goslar recalled going to her friend’s 13th birthday party and seeing a red-and-white checkered diary that Anne’s parents gave her as a birthday present –the diary she would fill while hiding from the Nazis in a secret annex in Amsterdam.

As read in the note published by AP, Pick-Goslar grew up with Frank in Amsterdam, after both their families moved there from Germany as the Nazi party rose to power. They lived next door to one another in Amsterdam, and went to school together. The friends were separated when Anne’s family went into hiding in 1942, but met again briefly in February 1945, at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany, shortly before Anne died.
