While Pope Francis has joked about there possibly being a new pope on the Throne of Peter by August of 2023, today he signed up for the World Youth Day to be held in Lisbon in that month.
After leading the midday Angelus this October 23, the Pope, joined by two young Portuguese pilgrims “registered” for the event on a tablet. The registration opens today.
The Pope urged young people around the world to sign up, saying that there, “we will rediscover the joy of fraternal embrace between peoples and between generations, which we need so much!”
Here’s what he said:
Today registration opens for World Youth Day to be held in Lisbon in August 2023. I have invited two young Portuguese to be here with me as I also register as a pilgrim. I will do that now… (click on tablet). There, I have signed up. You, have you signed up? Do it… And you, did you sign up? Do it… Here, stay here.
Dear young people, I invite you to register for this meeting in which, after a long period of distance, we will rediscover the joy of fraternal embrace between peoples and between generations, which we need so much!
