This month, visitors to the Vatican will see the facade of St. Peter’s Basilica illuminated with an 8-minute video display telling the story of St. Peter, the first pope, as part of the preparations for the coming Jubilee Year.
The video, called Follow Me: The Life of St. Peter, will be projected every night from October 2-16 onto the facade of St. Peter’s Basilica, every 15 minutes from 9 to 11 p.m.
Courtney Mares’ article on Angelus News explains that “a short preview of the video at a Vatican press conference on September 20 revealed that it will showcase video renderings of Renaissance artwork found in the Vatican Museums and inside the basilica.”
The archpriest of St. Peter’s Basilica, Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, said that the Vatican is expecting around 30 million people to visit the city in the coming 2025 Jubilee Year, and that this is the first of various initiatives that will welcome pilgrims to Rome.
“We think that people will be guided by the example of Peter to encounter the Lord and their brothers and sisters, to live their experience as pilgrims, and to leave renewed. It is an integrated pastoral action,” Gambetti said.
