World-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli is scheduled to sing at St. Peter’s Square on Sunday, October 2. The esteemed singer will be present for the inauguration of a new display at the Vatican, which will run from October 2 to October 16.
Bocelli
Bocelli previously performed at St. Peter’s Square in 2015, when he gave a brief concert to honor the 38th Annual Convocation. On that day, Bocelli performed “Panis Angelicus,” featured above, and the Bach/Gounod “Ave Maria,” an arrangement just as beautiful as Schubert’s.
Display
The 8 p.m. performance will launch a new light display at the Vatican, which will run each night for two weeks. The exhibit will feature a new video, Follow Me: The Life of St. Peter, which will be projected on the facade of St. Peter’s Basilica.
Vatican News released a trailer for the video, which appears to be mostly animated using historical artworks from the Vatican’s collection. The production will tell the story of St. Peter, the first pope of the Church. It’s a short video, only about eight minutes, but it will be played four times per hour, for two hours each night, with English subtitles.
