Pope Francis made a call for prayer on this World Alzheimer’s Day, for those suffering from the disease as well as “for their families, and for those who lovingly care for them, that they may be increasingly supported and helped.”
The Pope mentioned the World Day at the end of the general audience this September 21.
He lamented that the “so many people” who are affected by this disease “are often pushed to the margins of society because of this condition.”
He added, “In this prayer I also associate the men and women dealing with haemodialysis, dialysis, and transplantation who are represented here.”

Aleteia was honored to share the journey of one caregiver’s ups and downs as he took care of his wife with Alzheimer’s.
He shared with us everything from the hard days, to the moments of light in the darkness, to the power of prayer and the gift of the Church’s role, as well as the closure that came with charity in grief, and many other reflections.
