Catherine, the new Princess of Wales, is often in the news for her sartorial choices. With every single detail under intense scrutiny, there is often a message to be sent in whatever she wears.

So it was interesting to see Catherine make a more unusual choice in jewelry when visiting crowds in Sandringham yesterday. In a rare display of her faith, the princess opted to wear a beautiful diamond cross as she went on her walkabout.

And Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, the Queen’s daughter-in-law, has been wearing her own cross since Saturday, when she made her first public appearance after Elizabeth II’s death. In the various events she’s attended, her cross has been visible for all to see.

The choice to openly display their faith comes at a time when the royals are no doubt leaning on their faith to get through this intense period of mourning. Both women are religious and attend church services, but they don’t talk openly about their faith, which would be in keeping with their ranking in the family.

Considering the late Queen’s own deep faith, maybe the princess and countess will take inspiration and comfort from her to get through these trying times.

Whatever the reason, it is always inspiring to see people openly share their faith for the world to see. It is a powerful way to share our Christian identity with others, and helps to create a feeling of solidarity with other faithful.

There are so many different designs to choose from when to comes to wearing a symbol of the Christian faith. You can opt for a more discreet cross or a crucifix, and there are many forms it can take. From earrings or necklaces, to bracelets or even socks, there’s always a way to share your faith.
