With the Holy Spirit's help, and contemplating Mary, we can keep a hopeful outlook, even in life's struggles.

Pope Francis took a moment to nourish the virtue of hope in the faithful today, as at the end of the August 10 general audience, he reflected on the upcoming feast of the Assumption of Mary.

This feast celebrates God taking Mary into Heaven with both her body and soul. It is celebrated August 15.

In greeting French-speaking pilgrims, the Pope said that the celebration of the Assumption helps us be brave even as life on earth is full of difficulty.

“May she, who has entered the glory of heaven, sustain our courage in this time of pilgrimage that we have yet to experience here on earth,” he said.

Addressing the German-speaking pilgrims, the Pope noted how Mary’s victory came after her time of suffering.

“The Blessed Virgin Mary suffered with Jesus under the Cross,” he said, “so that she could then follow him as the first creature into his heavenly glory. From heaven, Mary looks upon each of us with motherly love. Let us therefore turn our gaze toward her that she may lead us to salvation.”

To the Portuguese-speaking faithful, the Pope reflected that “the best is yet to come,” as this feast of Mary confirms.

“May the Holy Spirit increase our faith,” he prayed, “so that we may truly believe that the best in our lives is yet to come. God bless you!”
