Nick and Meghan Lucindo of Cumming, Georgia, knew they needed a change. Drowning in debt, the two-career couple found themselves living in a brand new, 2,000 square-foot house and driving two brand new cars. And while they “never missed a payment,” as they told the New York Post, they couldn’t deny the fact they were in serious financial trouble.
So in March 2020 at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the couple, who had recently welcomed their first child, decided to take steps to better align with their Christian values (as expressed on their viral TikTok videos and Instagram account). They started listening to Dave Ramsey’s faith-based financial advice and decided to do something drastic. They sold their expensive home, purchased 8.5 acres of land in Northern Georgia for $40,000 and dropped a $20,000 2-story 860-square-foot Home Depot shed in the center of it.
The Lucindos lived in a camper for a few months while they fashioned the shed with plumbing, electricity, and a variety of other amenities to meet their needs; they did a lot of the work themselves for an estimated total of $40,000 in upgrades. In the end, their dramatic lifestyle change left them debt-free, allowing them to pay off $82,000 in nine months.
But that was just the beginning of this young couple’s dramatic financial journey. They recently revealed that in December they “flipped” their 8.5 acre property, selling the land and their tiny shed-home for a whopping $312,000. Since then, they built and moved into a larger traditional home that better suits their growing family. Nick had this to say about their accomplishments:
“Meghan and I are moved …we’re here to inspire EVERYONE to chase their dreams: ‘Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.’ (Psalms 34:10 NLT)”
