When Shanti Prasad married her college sweetheart Mintu Rai, their friends made them sign a fake pre-nup that captured the very essence of the couple. The video was shared on social media and has been viewed an incredible 45 million times.
The bride and groom, who married in a traditional ceremony in Guwahati, in the north of Assam, pledged to only have “one pizza a month.”
The reason stems from the bride’s love of pizza, and the groom’s inability to keep up with her passion. In fact, their very first date was over a pizza, as Rai shared with the BBC: “We bunked [skipped] the last class of our day and went to a nearby pizza outlet. I knew I had to take her for pizza because she always talked about pizzas.”
The “pizza freak,” as Prasad is known by her friends, confessed, “I am very fond of pizzas. On dates, I would always say let’s go and eat a pizza.” And while the couple never argued about food, Rai has sometimes complained to friends that he’s had enough of eating pizzas all the time.
“Her love for pizza is second only to her love for Mintu. I think she thinks about pizza in her free time and even in sleep,” pointed out the couple’s friends, Raghav Thakur, who instigated the contract.
The joke pre-nup also included some other important clauses; about gym membership; Prasad wearing a sari as Rai finds her pretty in them; and Rai cooking breakfast every Sunday and taking his wife shopping twice a month.
Of course, none of the contract is legally binding, but the group of friends who came up with the pre-nup wanted to highlight the couple’s passions, and show them just how much they really know the newlyweds and all their little foibles.
“We had no idea that our friends were planning this for us. But then our classmates really know us well,” shared the bride.
