Eva Mendes has been away from our screens for eight years now, but the mom of two is willing to return to her acting career with certain caveats in place.
The 48-year-old shares daughters Esmerelda and Amada with actor Ryan Gosling. The girls were born during Mendes’ acting hiatus, and they’ve had a huge impact on her life, as she’s explained in a number of interviews.
Recently she revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly: “I have such a short list of what I will do, with [my] kids; I mean, if it was a fun project. But now I won’t do violence, I don’t want to do sexuality, the list is short.”
While she last made an appearance in The Lost River, which was actually written and produced by Gosling, her two daughters have had a huge impact in her career, as she shared with Entertainment Tonight in 2020: “Acting is something that I will always love. It’s just like now that I have children, I’m kind of extreme. So I’m basically like, ‘Disney, I’m all yours, Disney.’ That’s all that’s left.” (And maybe she’s even changed her mind on that one now, too.)
In 2019, Mendes spoke with Women’s Health stating: “I feel more ambitious in the home right now than I do in the workplace … I’m just Mom. And I’m more than happy to just be Mom.”
It’s always beautiful to see the positive impact our children can have on us as parents. And whether you like Mendes’ work or not, it’s inspiring to see how she’s more than happy to share with the world that motherhood is far more important than the dazzling lights of Hollywood.
