A video has emerged recently of a little girl at her First Holy Communion. With all the awe and solemnity needed for such an occasion, she approached the priest to receive the Eucharist. And that’s where things took a surprising turn.

Brynley Heidebrink, age 7, from South Dakota, took the chalice from the priest and started drinking far more than a sip. In fact, the priest was a little startled by the youngster.

While some people found the occasion amusing, there’s a lot to be said about the little girl getting caught up in the sacred moment, and being truly present during her First Communion. (And kudos to her for being able to drink that much and keep a serene face!). Hopefully, this will be a sign of her further devotion to the sacrament through her lifetime.

But if there’s a takeaway to receive from this adorable First Communion moment, it is to remind our youngsters that they need to only take a sip from the chalice.
