A 96-year-old Holocaust survivor was killed by Russian artillery attacks in Ukraine.
During World War II, Boris Romanchenko was an inmate of Nazi German concentration camps in Buchenwald, Peenemünde, Dora, and Bergen-Belsen.
“We are stunned,” reads the Foundation’s short statement. “Boris Romanchenko was actively involved in the remembrance of Nazi crimes. He was vice-chairman of the Buchenwald-Dora International Committee,” the institution added in its social media post.
According to the 96-year-old man’s granddaughter, he lived in one of the Kharkov apartment blocks hit by Russian missiles.
