Sara Carbonero used the occasion of her birthday to share a meaningful message, especially for people fighting cancer.

Sara Carbonero is known in the Spanish-speaking world as a sports reporter and TV host, as well as for her involvement in fashion. She’s also a cancer survivor, and on February 3 this year, she used the occasion of her birthday to share a meaningful message. Her words are an encouragement for many people, especially people who are fighting cancer.

“Scars that are smiling on my skin.”

She wrote:

She posted this next to an image that puts the focus on her beauty—not just on her face or her body, but specifically on her body that has been pierced by a scalpel.

At 38 years old, Sara has two sons, Martin and Lucas, who are now 7 and 5 years-old. In 2019, doctors diagnosed her with ovarian cancer. She had to undergo surgery and received chemotherapy. Thousands of people were attentively following her situation. Many people prayed for her. There was an abundance of good will and of affection that was greater than the “haters” and the envy that celebrities often inspire.

Her birthday message aims to encourage not only the sick but also all those who suffer low self-esteem, those who are suffering a physical wound and those who carry wounds in the soul. (Who doesn’t?)

I usually say that for me the year never begins in January, nor with the new school year in September. I am more inclined to start it on my birthday, when I have completed a new journey around the sun.

That’s when I do a sort of seasonal appraisal.

And her assessment is this:

… this last year has been full of changes, growth, and learning but above all of acceptance and gratitude.

So, running away from intense subjects (let’s see if I can do it) I’ll only say a huge thank you to life for giving me another 365 blank pages to fill with the most beautiful words possible. I feel very lucky and happy.

Heartfelt thanks to all the people who accompany me along the way (…). You are my true treasure. (…) Thank you for not letting go of me and for loving me so much.

An unplanned photograph

The journalist and influencer explains that the photo wasn’t planned:

Yesterday we were taking some photos for the new Slowlove campaign and our photographer @alex.varo captured this moment. It wasn’t thought out or planned, I wasn’t posing, but when I saw the photo I thought that today, a day of celebration, was also the perfect day to share another achievement.

And she talks about her scars:

On the other hand, a good friend reminded me today that we are all born already with a scar, the one in our navel, and it’s living proof that to have life you have to have scars.

Messages of support

At the time when this article is being written, Sara has already received more than 183,000 likes and many messages of support. Among them, there’s one particularly worth reading, from a doctor who is an activist in favor of cancer patients. “Spiriman,” Jesús Candel (that’s his real name), writes to her:

Congratulations Sara! You have a beautiful, beautiful face and no one disputes your beauty. But I prefer to dwell on that scar on your belly and what it means to you and all those who have accompanied you in that suffering that you have dignified with your deep inner beauty. Don’t stop dancing and inspiring others to do so. A huge kiss, magical woman.

Spiriman knows what he is talking about. He’s not only a doctor, but now an oncology patient battling lung cancer. Let us pray for him and all those fighting sickness and disease.
