In a recently released video, the First Lady of Poland, Agata Kornhauser-Duda, speaks to a a demonstrable truth: when women come together and work for life and peace, they can achieve incredible things.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, March 8, Kornhauser-Duda called on women around the world to make a special appeal to Russian women to help stop the war in Ukraine:

I appeal to women all over the world. We cannot remain indifferent in the face of the war in Ukraine, which is claiming a growing number of victims everyday, including civilians. The International Women’s Day on March 8 is one of the most important holidays in Russia. Let us use this special opportunity to appeal to the women of Russia to stop the ongoing war in Ukraine. Let us ask them – the mothers, wives, and daughters — of Russian officers and soldiers who take part in the invasion of Ukraine, to protest on this day against further bloodshed and speak for life and peace.

The First Lady called for a social media campaign, asking women everywhere to post a photo of themselves holding up a piece of paper with a special hashtag on it:

I propose that on Tuesday, March 8, each of us publish on social media a self portrait [photo] with a message written on a piece of paper reading: #RussianWomenStopTheWar. I believe that should this campaign go viral globally, it will break through the Russian censorship and eventually reach the hearts and minds of thousands of Russian women. Acting together, women can make things happen and I do believe that they can even stop the war in Ukraine!

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 to commemorate the socio-economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world.
