There are many similarities between being in a marriage and being in a band. They are both uniquely personal pursuits that seek to create something new and intangible; something that is greater as a whole than as a sum of its parts. Most importantly, both thrive when all parties work together in harmony.
In that vein, it’s no wonder why Jesse and Kathleen LeBlanc are making such excellent music together in their freshly rebranded band, Found Together. Their songs focus on the beauty of a marriage that is based on unconditional love, while drawing on their Catholic faith as the binding agent.
The LeBlancs have been partners, both romantically and musically, since 2012, when they met in college. For seven years they were known simply as “A Guy and A Girl,” but in 2020 they renamed themselves “Found Together.” Now they’ve released a four-song EP, complete with high-resolution music videos.
Romance and fun
The first thing that struck us about their style is the love they share, which is clearly seen in the way they look at each other. In their video “Find Me,” for example, the LeBlancs sing to one another in an intimately lit room. For a moment they seem to forget the cameras are even there as they lose themselves in the heartfelt song of loving expression.
Romance is an important part of a marriage, but Jesse and Kathleen also remind viewers that the basis of every marriage is the couple’s friendship. In “Lucky One” the pair extol this virtue with a faster-paced tune, in which they have a blast in a park. Jumping leap-frog, playing around in a canoe, and picking on each other through the lyrics, they beam contentment as they spend a beautiful afternoon together.
One of our favorite parts of Found Together is their excellent duets. The duo has a knack for harmonies and they use them frequently to add a sweet musical texture to their works. This works symbolically as well as it does melodically, as the music itself becomes an extension of their harmonious relationship.
Family and ministry
Music isn’t the only thing that Kathleen and Jesse have been making. Along with working to create fine music and expand their brand, they have expanded their family with two children and another on the way.In an interview with BC Catholic, they said:
“I think it’s clear that we have found such joy and freedom in our relationship with each other and with the Lord, that we can’t help but write about it,” she said. “Marriage is the best adventure. We highly recommend it.”
The pair wear a lot of hats between being musicians, parents, promoters, and more, but they recognize the value of their role as creators of Catholic art. They consider Catholic music to be a call to the faithful that can draw the community closer to God and their faith. To this end, they have started an online ministry that focuses on Catholic marriage.
Called, “Catholic Date Night,” this monthly group meets to discuss different aspects of marriage, as well as sharing fun ideas for activities for married couples. Kathleen said of the group:
“It’s a monthly event for married or engaged couples who are looking for a chance to really dive into their marriage vocation, connect deeply with their spouse, and journey with other like-minded Catholic couples.”
