The interview on The Late Show was unexpected in a number of ways.

In a recent interview on The Late Show with singer and model, Dua Lipa, chat-show host and funnyman, Stephen Colbert, gave the British star a chance to ask him a question. What happened next was a little unexpected.

The softly-spoken Lipa took some time to come up with a question. Considering her young age of 26, and her career in the fashion and entertainment industry, it was refreshing to hear her question Colbert about his faith, the part it plays in his comedy, and whether the two overlap.

Although Colbert has been criticized by Catholics for comments about Planned Parenthood, as well as former president Donald Trump, there’s no disputing that he has no qualms about sharing his beliefs with his viewers, and was delighted with Lipa’s question.

He said he hopes that when he gets to heaven “Jesus has a sense of humor,” but then he continued on a more serious note to explain his position in relation to fear, sadness, death, and the movie Belfast. As he pointed out it’s “funny, sad, and funny about being sad” in a very Catholic way. And he said that laughter helps combat fear.

It’s definitely worth watching his entire answer, four minutes into the video below.

Whatever your feelings are about Colbert, it’s always refreshing to see someone in a prominent position in the world of TV readily speak about their own faith.
