Preparations for the Jubilee Year 2025 have already started in the Vatican: Pope Francis has entrusted its coordination to the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, the Vatican press office reported on December 26.
The president of the dicastery, Archbishop Rino Fisichella, has been meeting with the heads of the Secretariat of State, of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See (APSA) and of the Secretariat for the economy, specifies the note.
The Jubilee was recently mentioned by the new mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, who visited Pope Francis on November 18. At the end of the audience, the Italian official announced his eagerness to collaborate with the Holy See in the organization of this event.
The Jubilee of 2025 will be a highlight for the Eternal City, with large numbers of Catholics from all over the world flocking to the city for the entire year. During the Jubilee, pilgrims visit the tombs of the Apostles Peter and Paul and pass through the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome, for the extraordinary indulgences.
Originally celebrated every 50 years, ordinary jubilees are now marked every 25 years. In addition, there are extraordinary jubilees, the most recent being that of the Year of Mercy in 2016, called by the Argentine Pontiff to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the closing of Vatican Council II.
