During the Christmas season, an ad will sometimes come along that pulls at the heart strings and delivers a powerful message. And this year’s winner may just be a 4-minute commercial from Chevrolet.
The ad tells the story of a widower who, while hanging a holiday wreath on the barn door, is drawn inside to a worn-out, rusted Chevy convertible that clearly hasn’t been used for many years. He allows himself to run his hands along the hood and sit down in the dusty seat, before he spots an old photo of a lovely young woman. He smiles a tender smile, and then chokes back tears. The picture is of his deceased wife and the car holds many precious memories of their life together.
The ad cuts to the man’s daughter, who sees her father’s sorrow and heads into town to round up some caring friends to help give her dad a very special Christmas present.
That’s about as much as I can say without completely spoiling it; you’ll have to watch the whole thing for yourself.
The ad — which is more of a short film than a commercial — reminds us how important the memories are that we create with our loved ones, how precious the love of family is, and how neighbors and friends play a big role in bringing hope and healing, even when suffering is present.
And while it’s really not about the car, if you enjoy cars — especially antiques — then this little Christmas story, wrapped around a classic 1966 Chevy Impala, will fill you with all the feels.
