Lift up your heads and see; your redemption is near at hand. – Luke 21:28
Reflection
He is almost here! Lift up your heads and see; your redemption is near at hand. Our readings today focus on God sending us His messenger, who makes the final preparations for the Savior, and the Savior Himself, who comes into the world to redeem us.
The readings today fill us with anticipation and hope — but also with awe. At last we can lift up our heads; we no longer need to hide or be afraid. Christ, our redeemer is almost here.
During Advent we’ve been preparing our hearts and homes for the celebration of our Lord’s birth and all that it means. It is good news; indeed the very best news. So as we put the final touches on everything for Christmas, let us stand a little taller, lift our heads a little higher, and allow joy to fill our hearts.
Our God who loves us unconditionally is about to born, has been born, and wants to be reborn in our hearts.
Prayer
O God, who, seeing the human race fallen into death,
willed to redeem it by the coming of your only Begotten son, grant, we pray,
that those who confess his incarnation with humble fervor may merit his company as their Redeemer.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
