Their grandmother put the infants in the tub as the twister headed for their soon-to-be-demolished home.

Two infants in Kentucky survived a devastating tornado thanks to the quick thinking of their grandmother.

When the storms headed towards her house in Hopkins County, Clara Lutz, placed her two  grandchildren in a bathtub, covered them with a blanket and pillow, and added a Bible for good measure.

Thanks to her actions, Kaden, 15 months, and Dallas, 3 months, who she had been babysitting, survived a storm that leveled Lutz’s house.

“I felt the rumbling, I felt the shaking of the house. Next thing I knew, the tub had lifted and it was out of my hands. I couldn’t hold on, I just — Oh my God,” Lutz told 14 News.

Lutz told 14 News that when the tub was torn from its foundations, and she couldn’t find her grandchildren, she prayed to God that they would be found.

“I was looking everywhere to see where the tub may be. I had no clue at all where these babies was. All I could say was ‘Lord, please bring my babies back to me safely. Please, I beg thee,’” she said.

Once the storm had passed, rescuers discovered the tub upside down, with the babies underneath it.

“I got in the sheriff’s car down at the end of my driveway, and it wasn’t long after that that they opened up the door and brought me Kaden, my 15-month-old. And they brought me my three-month-old, baby Dallas. They brought him to me. He had a goose egg on the back of his head, we didn’t know what was wrong,” Lutz told 14 News.

The tornadoes that swept through Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Tennessee on December 10-11, left 89 dead. In Kentucky alone 76 were killed.
